Maine Smallpipe and Fiddle Workshop


April 4th and 5th


Workshops will be held in Blue Hill.
Saturday and Sunday 10-12 and 1:30-3:30.
Cost of the workshop is $60 for the weekend.


Piping Instructor Ellen MacPhee & Fiddling Instructor
Ward Allen MacDonald (both from Prince Edward Island)
will be teaching a 2-day workshop focused on Cape Breton &
PEI music. Both are prominent Maritime musicians with
extensive teaching experience.


A native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Ellen
MacPhee has played throughout the Maritime Provinces,
Ontario, and the Eastern United States. She has taught
at St. Ann's Gaelic College in Cape Breton. She has also
taught Smallpiping at the Piper's Gathering in Vermont,
and will be teaching there again this summer.

Ward Allen MacDonald has been teaching and performing on
PEI for almost 10 years. He is a fourth generation
fiddler who has performed across the Maritimes. Ward has
also held the position of president of the PEI Fiddler's Society.

Irish Musicians Association sponsors Irish country dance workshops each week from September to May.
Irish country dances are also called "set" dances or Irish square dances. Four or eight dancers form the set which is danced to lively traditional Irish music. These dances are a blend of seventeenth and eighteenth century European quadrilles and native Irish dance forms. Workshops are open to the public. Beginners are welcome. You do not need your own partner and costumes are not required. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes with a leather type sole.
